Heart Aware: Start Your Risk Assessment

Heart Health for the love of life

Heart health is a bigger deal than you may know.

  • The first symptom of heart disease is often a heart attack or sudden death.
  • In the U.S., someone has a heart attack every 34 seconds.
  • About 600,000 die of heart disease in the U.S. every year – that's 1 in every 4 deaths.

Knowing the signs and symptoms of a heart attack are key to saving lives. They include:

  • Chest pain or discomfort.
  • Upper body pain or discomfort in the arms, back, neck, jaw, or upper stomach.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Nausea, lightheadedness, or cold sweats.
  • The most common symptom is chest pain or discomfort. Women are somewhat more likely to experience the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain.

If you have any of these signs, call 911 immediately and get to a hospital right away.

Five minutes now can make a lifetime of difference.
