cardiac catherization

In this cardiovascular test, a catheter, or thin tube, is inserted into the patient's artery through the groin or arm. Then the doctor guides it into the coronary arteries. Contrast dye is injected and pictures are taken of the vessels of the heart to identify constrictions or blockages.

Cardiac catheterization is a sterile procedure. It is performed in the Interventional Cardiovascular Suite located in Imaging Department on the first floor of UMMC Midtown Campus.
