Diagnostic and Fluoroscopic Imaging

X-rays are useful tools for examining the skeletal system and certain soft tissue diseases. Using very small doses of ionizing radiation produces diagnostic quality images of the inside of your body. UMMC Midtown Campus Imaging also performs a wide variety of fluoroscopy procedures, such as barium enemas, upper GI series and modified barium studies. Fluoroscopy produces real-time moving images of the internal structures of the body.

CT Scan

Computed tomography (CT) is useful in the capturing of images of the body from a “cross sectional” perspective. UMMC Midtown Campus’ modern 64-slice CT scanner is used to perform many different exams, including specialized studies of the brain, spine, chest and abdomen, which can be completed in a matter of seconds. Learn about low-dose CT lung cancer screening at UMMC Midtown Campus.

Interventional Radiology (IR)

IR utilizes specialized imaging techniques to help specially trained physicians diagnose and treat unique pathology.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

These very detailed images are produced by radio waves instead of radiation. These images are stored digitally and reviewed by our radiologist using the PACS system. Patients can listen to music of their choice by headphone while their MRI exam is completed.

Nuclear Medicine

By using trace amounts of radioactive material, vast amount of information can be gathered about organ function and anatomy.

Ultrasound

An ultrasound machine uses high frequency sound waves to produce images of the soft tissues of the body, internal organs, pregnancy assessment, tendons and joints. Ultrasound is also used to guide physicians for biopsy or drainage exams.
