The Division of Infectious Diseases diagnoses and treats a range of complicated infectious diseases, including:


  • Infections in immunocompromised hosts including cancer, transplant and AIDS patients

  • Hepatitis B and C

  • Severe hospital-acquired infections

  • Meningitis

  • Endocarditis

  • Abdominal and brain abscesses

  • Osteomyelitis

  • Rickettsial infections

  • Interstitial cystitis

Institute of Human Virology (IHV) at UMMC Midtown Campus

The Institute of Human Virology (IHV) at the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus is home to a special program for people living with HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B and C, and other viral diseases, as well as a free HIV testing site for members of the community. Staffed by HIV specialists from the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s Division of Infectious Diseases, IHV at the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus provides high quality, confidential specialty care, as well as primary care, housing support, social services, addiction services, transportation, and more.

JACQUES Initiative

The JACQUES Initiative is a community outreach program of the Division of Infectious Diseases. The program provides comprehensive care for HIV positive men and women in the Baltimore community. Services include case management, mental health services, and treatment support as well as referrals for substance abuse services and housing.
